Job Description

Guide — Vita School Phoenix, AZ | Part-Time | Independent Contractor (1099) | $22
  • $30 / hour Come Build a Classroom That Doesn't Look Like School Vita is a microschool in Phoenix where students drive their own learning through real projects, real mentors, and real goals.
We're looking for a Guide — the adult presence who sets the tone of the room, holds the rhythm of the day, and makes sure every student is set up to do meaningful work. You won't lecture. You'll orchestrate a space where students work with focus, celebrate each other, and leave better than they arrived. The Basics Schedule Tuesday
  • Friday, 8:00 AM
  • 1:00 PM Monday PD meeting Hours Up to 20 hrs/week solo | Up to ~32 hrs/week if you also take Coach shifts Pay $22
  • $30 per hour (tiered by experience and performance, reviewed every 6 months) Classification 1099 Independent Contractor Location On-site at Vita School, Phoenix, AZ (not remote) Start Rolling — 6 weeks of paid onboarding from signing A Day in the Life You arrive before students.
Outlets get checked, whiteboards wiped, materials staged. When students walk in, the room already says: this is a place where we do good work. You run the day on a Pomodoro rhythm — focused work, short resets, community recharge, lunch. You move between students, sitting beside the stuck ones, asking better questions. You hand out raffle tickets when you catch someone doing the right thing — and you name it out loud so the culture gets stronger. You've been designing a real-world project with the Director's sign-off, and this week students are interviewing a local professional you tracked down last Tuesday. One student has a birthday on Friday, and you've already got the plan. You update attendance and grading before you leave. You head home by 1:00. What You'll Actually Do Open the room each morning — outlets, devices, materials, clean whiteboards. Run the Pomodoro flow — work blocks, bathroom windows, launch, lunch, community recharge. Build culture through positive narration and our raffle ticket behavior incentive system. Design real-world style projects (with Director approval) to deepen student learning. Tutor and support students one-on-one when they're stuck. Keep grading and attendance current, daily. Source community experts, mentors, and speakers to plug into student projects and field trips. Own student birthday celebrations — every student, every time. You'll Thrive Here If You love being around young people and can hold your energy for a 5-hour shift. You're organized, on time, and don't need someone chasing you to get things done. You'd rather coach than lecture. You can write a clear, kind note to a parent. You have real-world experience — in any field — that students can learn from. You're okay with structure (Pomodoro, attendance, grading) AND with autonomy (designing projects, building community connections). Nice-to-Haves Experience in microschools, Montessori, Acton, Prenda, or other self-directed learning models. Bilingual (Spanish / English). Classroom management background. A skill, craft, or hobby you're genuinely good at. The Requirements Valid AZ IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card — or willingness to obtain one before starting. Reliable transportation to our Phoenix campus Tuesday-Friday. Able to pass a background check. Legally authorized to work in the U.S. How We Hire 5-minute phone screen — we learn about you, you learn about us. 30-minute virtual interview — video on, we go deeper. 60-minute on-site visit — meet students, families, staff, leadership, and tour the school. If it's a mutual yes, you sign the agreement and start our 6-week onboarding with a dedicated mentor. How to Apply Apply through Indeed with your resume and a short note telling us: One real-world skill or experience you'd bring into the classroom. The best thing a teacher or mentor ever did for you as a student — and why it stuck. We read every application. We respond to every serious one. Vita is an equal opportunity workplace. We hire based on fit, integrity, and craft — regardless of background.
