MDMC is a non profit organization that supports Deaf, DeafBlind, DeafPlus and Hard of Hearing (DDPDBHH) people. We work to make life better for our community.
Job Overview:
This seasonal part time position seeks a dedicated and passionate American Sign Language (ASL) Teacher to teach students the fundamentals of ASL, including vocabulary, grammar, fingerspelling, and Deaf culture. The teacher will create engaging lessons that include games, access student progress and foster an inclusive and respectful learning environment.
General Responsibilities:
Teach ASL to students at various skill levels Develop and implement lesson plans and activities Introduce students to Deaf culture and history Access and monitor student progress Create a supportive, inclusive classroom environment Communicate with students and MDMC staff as needed Other duties as assigned by the
Assistant Director Required Qualifications:
Proficiency in American Sign Language Experience teaching ASL, working with Deaf Individuals and knowledge of Deaf culture Strong communication and online classroom management skills Teaching certification or life experience teaching ASL to hearing individuals (Preferred but not required) Deep willingness to learn on an ongoing basis more about the impacts of Racism, Audism, disability injustice, other forms of oppression, discrimination and barriers of the population we serve.
