Program Overview:

This position is a part of Henry Street Settlement s Education and Employment Services, a $10M division providing a continuum of services from early childhood education through adult workforce programs designed to assist individuals in obtaining the skills necessary for lifetime self-sufficiency. Our employment programs are derived from proven models to provide holistic employment, education, and financial counseling services to low-income New Yorkers. The ESOL Program includes classes in ESOL Basics, ESOL Job Readiness, Citizenship Preparation, ESOL Literacy and ESOL Civics.

Job Summary:

As an instructor in our ESOL Basics program, you will work with low intermediate-level participants to develop English language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) and to help them reach other identified goals. Responsibilities Develop lesson plans focused on the 4 skills appropriate for in-person learners. Teach in-person ESOL class on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. Help administer Best Plus 3.0 tests to all students at the end of each session to determine progress/gains (after becoming certified). Maintain records of student attendance, make monthly progress notes for each student, and help produce reports as needed. Requirements Bachelor s Degree required. At least one year of experience teaching English to adult speakers of other languages. Ability to connect deeply with a diverse immigrant/adult learning population, including special sensitivity to those who have experienced trauma. Experience required using a Smartboard, Zoom and Google Classroom strongly desired.
