About Us Buds & Buddies Mandarin (BBM) is a Mandarin language and cultural enrichment program located on Manhattan's Upper East Side. We provide engaging Mandarin classes, after-school programs, weekend classes, holiday camps, and museum-based learning experiences for children ages 3-12. Our teaching philosophy is "Learning Through the Lens of History." We help children develop Mandarin proficiency while exploring Chinese culture, history, art, literature, music, and the world around them. Position Overview We are seeking an experienced, energetic, and reliable Mandarin Chinese teacher who enjoys working with young children. The ideal candidate can create a warm, structured, and engaging classroom while adapting lessons to different ages and language levels. This position may include after-school Mandarin classes, weekend programs, private lessons, holiday camps, and cultural enrichment activities. Responsibilities Plan and teach engaging Mandarin lessons for children ages 3-12 Incorporate stories, games, songs, art, history, and cultural activities into lessons Support students with different Mandarin proficiency levels Maintain a safe, positive, and well-managed classroom Communicate professionally with parents and the BBM teaching team Prepare lesson plans and age-appropriate teaching materials Assist with special events, holiday programs, museum visits, and seasonal camps when needed Observe students' progress and provide thoughtful feedback Qualifications Native or near-native proficiency in Mandarin Chinese Bachelor's degree in Education, Chinese Language, Early Childhood Education, or a related field preferred At least two years of classroom teaching experience Experience teaching children ages 3-12 in the United States preferred Strong classroom management skills Warm, patient, responsible, and highly organized Comfortable communicating in English with parents and colleagues Able to design interactive, age-appropriate lessons Knowledge of Chinese history, literature, art, music, or traditional culture is a plus Must be legally authorized to work in the United States Must be willing to complete required background checks Schedule Candidates should be available for one or more of the following: Weekday afternoons, approximately 2:30-5:30 PM Saturday or Sunday classes School holidays and seasonal camps Occasional private lessons or special cultural programs Compensation Competitive hourly compensation based on teaching experience, qualifications, and assigned responsibilities.
