Job Description

The Gymnastics Coach is responsible for leading and developing athletes in either a recreational or competitive gymnastics program at the YMCA. This role focuses on skill progression, strength development, and confidence-building, while ensuring a safe, fun, and positive training environment. The coach will plan and implement gymnastics training sessions, lead team practices, and provide private lessons based on athletes' individual needs and goals. We lead with faith . Essential Functions Develop and lead structured gymnastics training for recreational classes, competitive teams, or private lessons. Design progressive skill-building lesson plans tailored to athletes' abilities and goals. Ensure the safety of all participants by teaching proper techniques, spotting athletes, and enforcing safety protocols. Evaluate athlete performance and progress, providing feedback and setting individualized goals. Prepare gymnasts for performances, showcases, and competitions based on program level and participation Foster a positive and encouraging atmosphere, promoting teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship. Communicate with parents, gymnasts, and YMCA staff regarding schedules, expectations, and progress. Maintain and inspect gymnastics equipment, ensuring it is safe, clean, and properly stored. Assist with planning and organizing gymnastics events, including team meets, clinics, and exhibitions. Promote YMCA values and mission, fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for all participants. Performs other duties and tasks as assigned by leadership Qualifications Required Qualifications Previous experience coaching gymnastics in a recreational, competitive, or private lesson setting. Strong knowledge of gymnastics fundamentals, progressions, and spotting techniques for all skill levels. Experience working with children and youth in a coaching or instructional role. High school diploma or equivalent required. Ability to provide individualized instruction, motivation, and feedback to gymnasts of varying skill levels. Excellent communication and leadership skills to engage and inspire athletes. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and competition days as needed. All YMCA team members are expected to maintain a current and active status for all safety, risk, and programming certifications defined by the YMCA of Greater Charlotte. Preferred Qualifications Certification in gymnastics coaching, safety, and spotting preferred (e.g., USAG, CPRP). Degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, or a related field preferred. Working Conditions Indoor gymnastics facility, requiring frequent movement, lifting, and spotting athletes. Physical activity involving standing, bending, stretching, lifting, and assisting gymnasts. Lifting and setting up gymnastics equipment, including mats, beams, and bars. Fast-paced and dynamic environment, working with athletes of all skill levels. Evening and weekend availability required for practices, meets, and private lessons. Exposure to loud environments during classes, competitions, and special events. Competencies

  • 3 years experience coaching competitive gymnastics (USAG Xcel Gold level and above).
Background as a competitive gymnast preferred. Deep knowledge of current competitive rules, scoring systems, and skill progressions. Active certifications in USAG and SafeSport (or willingness to obtain prior to start). Strong leadership, spotting, and motivational skills. Availability to work at evening and weekend training sessions, as well as travel for weekend meets. All YMCA team members are expected to maintain a current and active status for all safety, risk, and programming certifications defined by the YMCA of Greater Charlotte.

Advanced is responsible for leading and developing athletes in a high-level competitive gymnastics program at the YMCA. This role focuses on skill progression, strength development, and professional-level instruction. This role focuses on advanced technical instruction, routine development, physical conditioning, and mental preparation to help gymnasts perform at their highest potential in a supportive, safety-focused environment.
