Yesterday Job Description Head Basketball Cheerleading Coach Lake Norman High School — Athletics Department Lake Norman High School is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Head Basketball Cheerleading Coach to lead our Wildcats cheer squad for the winter/basketball season. The ideal candidate is passionate about cheerleading, committed to athlete safety, and skilled at building a positive, spirited team culture that supports our basketball programs and represents the school with pride. Key Responsibilities Plan and lead tryouts, practices, and skill development for the basketball cheerleading squad Coach and supervise the squad at all home and away basketball games, pep rallies, and other scheduled events Design and teach cheers, chants, stunts, and routines appropriate to squad skill level and safety guidelines Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols for stunting, tumbling, and jumps, including proper progressions and spotting Monitor student-athletes' academic eligibility and encourage strong classroom performance Communicate professionally and regularly with student-athletes, parents, and school administration Manage team logistics, including scheduling, transportation coordination, uniforms, and equipment/inventory Enforce school, conference, and NCHSAA rules, eligibility requirements, and codes of conduct Foster a positive, inclusive team culture that emphasizes sportsmanship, discipline, and school spirit Coordinate with the Athletic Director on event coverage and scheduling for basketball season Qualifications High school diploma required; college degree preferred Prior cheerleading coaching or competitive cheer experience at the high school, club, or collegiate level Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) Current or willingness to obtain certification in cheer safety (e.g., AACCA Safety Certification) and any state/district-required coaching certifications Completion of NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching course (or willingness to obtain prior to start) Ability to pass a background check per district policy Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills Ability to work evenings and weekends as required by game and practice schedules Preferred Qualifications Experience coaching stunt, tumbling, or competitive cheer Familiarity with NCHSAA rules and regulations Experience working with high school-aged student-athletes in an educational setting
