Job Description
JV Women's Basketball Head Coach
Lake Norman High School Athletics Department
Lake Norman High School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Head Coach for JV Women's Basketball to lead our Wildcats program. The ideal candidate is passionate about developing student-athletes both on and off the court, committed to building a strong foundation for our basketball program, and able to work collaboratively with the varsity coaching staff to ensure a consistent, program-wide culture.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and lead practices, conditioning, and skill development for the JV team
Coach and manage the team during all scheduled games, scrimmages, and tournaments
Develop players' fundamentals and prepare student-athletes for potential advancement to the varsity level
Collaborate closely with the Varsity Head Coach to align philosophy, systems, and expectations across the program
Monitor student-athletes' academic eligibility and encourage strong classroom performance
Communicate professionally and regularly with student-athletes, parents, and school administration
Ensure the safety and well-being of all players, including proper supervision, equipment use, and injury protocols
Manage team logistics, including scheduling, transportation coordination, and equipment/uniform inventory
Enforce school, conference, and NCHSAA rules, eligibility requirements, and codes of conduct
Foster a positive, inclusive team culture that emphasizes sportsmanship, discipline, and personal growth
Qualifications
High school diploma required; college degree preferred
Prior coaching or playing experience in basketball at the high school, club, or collegiate level
Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
Completion of NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching course and any state/district-required coaching certifications (or willingness to obtain prior to start)
Ability to pass a background check per district policy
Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills
Ability to work evenings and weekends as required by game and practice schedules
Preferred Qualifications
Experience coaching at the JV or varsity level
Familiarity with NCHSAA rules and regulations
Experience working with high school-aged student-athletes in an educational setting
