Job Description

St. John's Seminary (Camarillo, CA) is conducting a search for a full-time faculty position in Spanish beginning July 1, 2027. The Spanish Language Program at St. John's Seminary prepares future priests to minister to Spanish-speaking communities. In addition to pastoral Spanish courses, the program offers electives and Spanish courses for native speakers. It also facilitates language immersions and individual tutoring.
Primary responsibilities:
Teach four to six courses per year on the semester system. Assist the department chair in Spanish proficiency exams as well as placement exams during admissions Provide service to the seminary through committee and formation work. Engage in regular professional development through research, publications, conferences, or other avenues.
Qualifications:
Practicing Catholic committed to the mission of forming men for the priesthood Gifted teacher with adequate experience to teach all levels of college Spanish. The ideal candidate will have intermediate to advanced experience as a Spanish instructor. Master's Degree in Spanish Language or Literature or related field Fluent in Spanish and English Demonstrate professionalism and a strong work ethic; team player who exhibits a collegial and cooperative approach to work, contributing positively to a supportive and productive work environment Parish or other ministerial experience preferred St. John's Seminary in Camarillo, CA is the seminary of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles and serves dioceses across the Southwest. Founded in 1939, St. John's has formed more than 1,300 priests for both religious and diocesan ministry. The primary mission of St. John's Seminary is to prepare candidates for service as Roman Catholic priests by assisting them to grow as disciples of Jesus Christ, discern the vocation to which God calls them, root themselves in Word and Sacrament and the Church's theological tradition, integrate the spiritual, human, intellectual and pastoral dimensions of their lives, and develop skills for ministry, leadership and evangelization in a culturally diverse Church.
