Chowan University seeks a full-time, in-person, 9-month faculty member in the Department of Sport Science to begin in August, 2026 or January, 2027. The appointment may be at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure-track) or Instructor (non-tenure track), based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses within the Sport Sciences curriculum, provide academic advising, and contribute to program development and student success initiatives. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to high-quality teaching, active student engagement, and collaboration with colleagues in a Christ-centered academic community. In addition to classroom instruction, faculty responsibilities include curriculum development, assessment activities, mentoring students, participation in departmental and university service, and engagement in professional development. Essential Functions Teach undergraduate Sport Sciences courses in a face-to-face instructional setting. Demonstrate a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and academic advising. Integrate technology and innovative teaching methods into course delivery and curriculum development. Maintain regular office hours and provide academic support and mentorship to students. Participate in curriculum assessment, program review, and continuous improvement initiatives. Collaborate with faculty colleagues to enhance academic programs and student learning outcomes. Support student recruitment, retention, and engagement efforts. Serve on departmental and university committees as assigned. Participate in professional development activities to maintain expertise in the field. Contribute to the overall mission and goals of Chowan University through service and engagement. Commitment to the mission of a Christian university and dedication to student success. Education and Experience Ph.D. in Sport Science or a closely related field is required. University-level teaching experience is preferred. Evidence of effective teaching and student engagement is preferred. Experience using instructional technologies and learning management systems is desirable. Professional experience in sport science, exercise science, human performance, kinesiology, or related disciplines is beneficial. Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated ability to teach a variety of undergraduate Sport Science courses. Experience with curriculum development and program assessment. Commitment to mentoring and advising undergraduate students. Evidence of scholarly, professional, or applied experience in the field. Ability to contribute to interdisciplinary initiatives and experiential learning opportunities.
