Shepherd University invites applications for a nine-month, full-time tenure-track assistant professor of Environmental Science position within the College of Science, Health, and Wellness. The Department values student mentorship and experiential learning opportunities and seeks candidates who combine field and/or lab research in their teaching. Candidates excited about supporting undergraduate research and who are dedicated to high quality, innovative undergraduate education are encouraged to apply. The candidate will be expected to teach 3 lectures and associated labs per semester, hold office hours each week, and assist with student advising and mentorship. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated excellence in teaching at the university level, postdoctoral experience, and/or experience mentoring undergraduate research students. Shepherd University is located in Shepherdstown, WV. It is an accredited public four-year state-appropriated university with approximately 3300 students enrolled. Shepherd University is situated in the Shenandoah Valley, on the banks of the Potomac River, in historic Shepherdstown, WV. Located in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia, Shepherdstown is within 20 miles of Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. It is approximately 65 miles from the metropolitan areas of Washington DC and Baltimore, MD. Priority will be given to applicants who submit their applications by October 8, 2026. Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Environmental Science or closely related field, teaching experience at the undergraduate level, and a willingness to mentor undergraduate research students.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Environmental Science or closely related field and experience teaching Aquatic Science classes such as Oceanography, Limnology, and Stream Ecology, the ability to conduct research, preferably involving undergraduate students, and a willingness to mentor undergraduate research students in projects of their own.

Rank and Salary:

Full-time Tenure-Track Assistant Professor. Anticipated salary range is $60,000 - $63,000.
