Job Overview We're growing our chess program and looking for a coach who loves working with kids more than they love winning games. You don't have to be a Master or an Expert. You DO have to love chess, be willing to get better at it yourself, and be able to teach it in a way that makes kids excited to come back every week. If you've worked with kids before — as a teacher, counselor, tutor, coach, or mentor — and you actually enjoy it, you might be a perfect fit even if you're still learning chess. Responsibilities

• Lead fun, engaging group lessons and practice games for elementary / middle school students, ensuring that they are engaging, challenging, and aligned with our educational standards.
• Manage classroom dynamics (different ages) maintaining a positive and respectful atmosphere that encourages active learning and participation.
• Teach fundamentals: piece movement, basic tactics, openings, sportsmanship, and clock management.
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to ensure that students receive the support they need to succeed.
• Create a positive, patient, encouraging environment where kids feel safe to make mistakes; adapting instructional methods to meet the needs of diverse learners.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and behavioral issues.
• Continue to study and improve your own game so you can better teach it. Qualifications
• Experience working with students, preferably in a classroom, camp or after-school setting.
• Proven experience in tutoring or teaching, with a focus on providing individualized support to students.
• Strong classroom management skills, with the ability to maintain a positive and productive learning environment.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas in a clear and concise manner.
• Comfortable managing a group of 8-20 kids
• No minimum USCF rating required — teaching ability > playing strength Skills
• A USCF rating or tournament experience (not required)
• First Aid/CPR, background check clearance
• Experience working with students, including tutoring and classroom instruction.
• Experience with classroom management and instructional design.
• Ability to educate students of all ages and skill levels.
