Job Description

We seek professionals to teach both lecture and laboratory courses in person in Reading, Pennsylvania. Most engineering courses are taught at the John R. Post Center, 401 Penn Street, Reading, PA, with some activities potentially using other Alvernia Reading locations. Applicants must be available for weekday daytime teaching, primarily between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. This daytime availability is an important requirement for these in-person positions. Lecture courses typically meet on multiple days each week, so applicants must be able to commit to a recurring weekday schedule for the full semester. Remote or hybrid teaching is not available for these pools. Hired candidates join the adjunct pool and may receive separate contracts for individual courses as needs arise. Pool appointment does not guarantee a course assignment. Potential teaching areas Biomechanics and Human Movement Statics, dynamics, strength of materials, kinesiology, human movement, and related laboratory instruction. Biomedical Instrumentation and Measurement Circuit fundamentals, sensors, physiological measurement, instrumentation, data acquisition, measurement and dynamic response, and related laboratory work. Biofluids and Physiological Systems Fluid mechanics applied to biological systems, anatomy and physiology for engineers, and engineering analysis of physiological systems. Medical Device Design and Regulatory Affairs Medical device design, biomedical regulatory affairs, biomedical engineering design, interdisciplinary design projects, capstone instruction, and upper-level biomedical engineering electives. Biostatistics and Biomedical Data Analysis Biostatistics and quantitative analysis for biomedical engineering applications. Preferred qualifications We particularly welcome practicing engineers and technical professionals who can bring current industry experience into the classroom. Prior college teaching is not required. Preferred candidates will have at least a master's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a closely related field and approximately five or more years of relevant professional experience. These are preferred qualifications, not absolute minimums; comparable combinations of advanced education, professional licensure, specialized expertise, industry experience, research, and teaching will be considered. Completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, Engineer in Training (EIT) certification, and/or Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is a plus. Application and employment requirements How to apply All applications and application materials must be submitted through Alvernia University's ADP employment portal for the specific adjunct pool posting. Submit a current resume or curriculum vitae and a brief letter of interest identifying the courses or subject areas you believe you are qualified to teach. Do not email application materials. Email inquiries are welcome, but a formal application through ADP is required for consideration. Work authorization Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and able to accept employment with Alvernia University without current or future employer sponsorship. Questions and inquiries Prospective applicants may contact Dr. Joseph M. Mahoney, Chair of the John R. Post School of Engineering, at joseph.mahoney@alvernia.edu with questions about the School, the adjunct pool, or potential teaching needs. Application materials must be submitted through ADP and should not be emailed. Equal employment opportunity Alvernia University is an equal-opportunity employer committed to Franciscan values.
