Orange Approved Supervisor Sydney Nomura Supervisor snomurachapman Scheduling Please use dates within Chapman Academic Calendar (chapman/academics/academic-calendar.aspx ) Desired Start Date 07/20/2026 Projected End Date 05/23/2027 Average number of hours per week Up to 19 Hrs Position Summary Information Job Description Summary The Graduate Assistant for Student Organizations provides oversight and development of student organizations and assists in managing departmental events, initiatives, and policies. The Graduate Assistant is a member of the Department of Student Engagement and the Division of Student Affairs. Responsibilities Supervision and Advising Along with professional staff, supervise and manage the Student Organization Assistants
  • including planning weekly staff meetings Along with the professional staff, identify training and development needs and implement appropriate strategies to address those needs.
Ensure student staff and student organization leaders' thoroughness in navigating University resources, policies, and procedures, including those pertaining to event and facility scheduling, funding and financial procedures, contract and risk management procedures, and event publicity. Student Organization Support Oversee responses to academic and professional organization inquiries, onboarding new organizations, and managing End of Semester Reports. Oversee approval of new academic student organizations, assess organizational and event risk management, and manage related online systems. In conjunction with professional and undergraduate staff, oversee Student Event Advisory Committee meetings on Fridays at 12pm. Provide opportunities for the development of academic student organization leadership that nurture organization growth and provide leadership development for organization members, primarily by facilitating President's Council meetings. Events and Programming In conjunction with Student Organization staff, assist with events for all recognized student organizations including the President's Leadership Summit and Involvement Fair, and other leadership workshops. Assist with efforts to enhance academic student organization membership recruitment through support during Orientation, Student Involvement Fair, other recruitment programs, and coaching of student organization leadership. Maintain positive working relationships with campus partners from academic/administrative departments, Student Government Association, and Sodexo in support of the work of student organizations. Other duties as assigned Participate in and contribute to Department of Student Engagement programs, services, experiences, and resources as determined by supervisor Required Qualifications Little to minimal prior experience. Ability to learn support process. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite. Desired Qualifications Previous experience, at the graduate or undergraduate level, working with student organizations, student organization event management, and/or student leadership development. Knowledge of topics related to college students' academic and professional development. Previous experience, at the graduate or undergraduate level, working directly with faculty. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Humanity, Basecamp, 25Live. Special Instructions to Applicants Criteria that will be taken into account in our selection process pertain to candidate's leadership and supervisory experience, experience with and readiness for coordinating and assisting with student co-curricular programming, capacity for providing autonomous oversight of areas of responsibility (i.e. facilities, programs, and services), enrollment in a graduate program applicable to student affairs, and active pursuit of a career in student affairs.
