Family Service League is seeking a full-time Program Director for a homeless shelter in Lindenhurst, NY. The Program Director is responsible for general program oversight: staff hiring, training, scheduling and management; program documentation; and reporting and tracking program milestones and outcomes for individuals and families in the program; all regulated by the Department of Social Services. The Program Director provides leadership in directing services and supports to all clients, ensuring operational policies and procedures are being followed, and seeking advisement and improvement throughout the shelters.

RESPONSIBILITIESThe Program Director will oversee staff, including recruiting, hiring, training, developing, and conducting supervisions and performance appraisals. Conduct regular staff meetings and ensure a team environment. Lead all staff in a professional manner at all times.

Train staff on crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.

Oversee all operations of the shelter, including during the evening shifts. Recommend and implement operational improvements.

Develop, implement and disseminate program policies and procedures. The Program Director will enforce policies and procedures to maintain a safe environment for clients and staff.

Ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations.

Act as a liaison to the funding source; communicating in a timely and effective fashion.

Demonstrate the Agencys and Programs mission and goals to internal and external entities at all times.

The Program Director will oversee and handle unit inspections.

Promote client success by providing information and support to clients, as well as assisting with intake procedures, admission requirements and housing liaisons.

Assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations to resolve the problem.

Ensure Incident Reports for the Program are completed timely and accurately.

Responsible for being on-call Monday to Thursday, 4pm to 8am, including covering shifts when needed. Responsible for on-call weekend coverage as is necessary.

This position is essential to the safe and continuous operation of the program. Essential employees are expected to report to work during inclement weather and other relevant emergency situations to ensure uninterrupted care and support for clients.

All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors degree in social work or related field is required. A masters degree is preferred. At least 5 years of related experience managing a shelter program, including knowledge of client benefits and service systems is required. At least 3 years of progressively responsible management experience is required.

Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills required.

Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task are required.

Demonstrated ability to manage highly stressful and crisis situations is required.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office required. Experience with an HMS is strongly preferred.

Valid, clean, New York State Drivers License required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Sitting and standing for extended periods of time, as well as moderate lifting.

Must be able to go up and down stairs.
