GENERAL DESCRIPTION
This position is responsible to oversee the day to day administration of the office and for hiring and supervision of all professional staff within the office. The Office of Financial Aid administers over $28 million dollars from various sources. The Director oversees the Office is compliant with federal (all Title IV aid), state (merit and need-based), institutional (merit and athletic), NCAA, and outside aid.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director ensures that staff is adequately trained for the various regulatory requirements. At various times, traffic may be very heavy and the Director may assist with operational responsibilities. The Director is expected to be involved with federal and state associations and provide input as it relates to programs and regulatory development. Administers all matters dealing with the Financial Aid office to include systems planning, policy development, general operations, and ensure compliance of federal, state, NCAA, institutional and outside scholarship compliance. Meet and advise students, parents, faculty, alumni, staff, and the general public regarding FA matters and supervising the FA staff. Attend, or assign attendee, meetings at the federal, state, local, NCAA, and institutional level, as appropriate, as it pertains to crafting, development, and dissemination of all aid programs. Plans and manages the distribution of all financial aid funds in excess of $28 million. As appropriate, assist with the awarding of programs, mainly high-volume programs such as loans and state scholarship programs. Acts as the University's primary financial aid representative when speaking at on and off campus events, or assigns adequate representation for such events. About our ideal candidate
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred) with 5-7 years' experience in a financial aid office and experience in a supervisory role. Must have in-depth experience with mainframe processing systems and a variety of personal computer software. Must be capable of learning and implementing new processing systems and software quickly. Must be knowledgeable and current in federal and state regulations and office policy pertaining to verification process from written resources and in-house training. Requires ability to manage concurrent job demands in an efficient manner with limited technical and mathematical errors. Trouble shooting and problem solving skills are required. The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, and students is essential. Expected to attend various conferences and workshops as it relates to federal and state regulations. Requires reading comprehension of student financial aid forms, policies, and office procedures; strong organizational skills; assimilate a great amount of detail; the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in written form; perform routine math functions accurately and efficiently; cope with constant interruptions and awareness of confidentiality of student files. Communicate effectively both in oral and written fashion. Reporting to the Assistant Vice-President of Student Financial Services, the employee must be able to work without direct supervision, interpret and follow federal regulations, program and office policies and procedures from verbal and written instructions. Will be responsible for reading and assimilating program and office policies and procedures from in-house training and request assistance as needed. Must have the ability to make sound judgments within office and University policies and procedures and work well with limited supervision. The Director must also ensure the FA staff is fully aware of statutory and regulatory changes and ensure staff is adequately trained in order to meet general administrative capability standards.
