Job Description
East Windsor Middle School is seeking a qualified and dedicated Long-Term Classroom Substitute Teacher for 6th Grade Social Studies for the remainder of the 2026-2027 school year. The successful candidate will assume the responsibilities of the classroom teacher, providing high-quality instruction aligned with the district curriculum and Connecticut Academic Standards while fostering a positive, supportive, and engaging learning environment.

Essential Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based instruction following district curriculum and pacing guidelines.
Develop and implement daily lesson plans and instructional activities.
Create and maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
Assess student learning and provide timely feedback.
Maintain accurate attendance, grades, and student records.
Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
Collaborate with grade-level teams, special education staff, specialists, and administrators.
Participate in faculty meetings, professional learning, parent conferences, and school events as appropriate during the assignment.
Communicate effectively with students, families, and staff.
Perform all other duties expected of the regular classroom teacher during the assignment.
Qualifications:
Appropriate CT Grade /
Subject Area Certification:
Social Studies - (026) or (226)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Valid Connecticut Teaching Certificate appropriate for the assignment or eligibility to serve under Connecticut State Department of Education regulations for long-term substitute assignments.
Demonstrated knowledge of effective instructional practices and classroom management.
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to establish positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
Previous teaching or long-term substitute experience.
Experience with differentiated instruction and educational technology.
Familiarity with Connecticut Core Standards and district curriculum.
Physical Demands:

Must possess the ability to stand, sit, and walk unassisted and provide movement assistance to students as needed
Must possess the ability to lower self to a seated position on floors, and to move from a seated position on floor to standing position unassisted
Must possess normal visual acuity, with or without corrective lenses, and depth perception

Work Environment:
Often work indoors, moving between classrooms and other school areas
May work outdoors during physical education and recess.

Work Days:
Work days follow the school calendar, particpation in before & after school meetings may be required
Work Scheduled:
EWMS 7:50-3:00
Daily Compenstation is based on BA Step 1 of the current EWEA Contract - $308.55 per day
