Job Description

The Girard Free Library is seeking a full-time Children's Librarian. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in children's literature, a commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive library environment, and the ability to engage young readers and their families in creative and fun ways. Duties
  • Develop and and deliver age-appropriate library programs and activities for children (ages 0-12)
  • Assist children, parents, and caregivers in selecting books and resources
  • Participate in outreach events, including school visits, library tours, and community fairs.
  • Build relationships with local schools, daycares, and community organizations to promote library services and encourage children's literacy development.
  • Curate and maintain a collection of children's books, educational materials, and multimedia resources.
  • Maintain records of program attendance, library visits, and other metrics to track the effectiveness of programs and services.
  • Stay current on children's literature, library trends, and new educational technologies Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in library science, education, or a related field and experience working with children in a library setting or similar environment (e.g., education, daycare, or youth services)
  • Ability to create engaging, age-appropriate programming.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with children, parents, and caregivers.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with library staff, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Adaptability to the needs of a small community library
  • Knowledge of library systems and technology preferred
  • Satisfactory criminal background check and drug test
