Job Description
Part-Time Library Technicians, Clapp Memorial Library (Belchertown)
The Clapp Memorial Library is looking to fill two part-time Library Technician positions. Library Technicians play a key role in providing customer service to our patrons and assisting with the daily operations of the circulation department. Each part-time position will work about 12 hours per week.
Essential Duties
- Performs all circulation desk tasks including checking in, checking out, and renewing library materials; registering new borrowers and updating patron records; reviewing patron accounts for unpaid bills and taking appropriate action; collecting payments for billed items; and preparing and posting monthly overdue and billing notices.
- Aids patrons in use of computers, computer programs, photocopier, and other library equipment; provides assistance in locating information via all reference sources available at the library; assists patrons in the use of the online catalog and selection of materials.
- Explains procedures for reserves, interlibrary loans, and purchase requests. Assists patrons with placing holds on requested items. Searches for requested and reserved materials in computer catalog and on shelves.
- In the absence of the Circulation and Reference Librarian, provides assistance to library pages and volunteers as needed.
- Shelves library materials; maintains collection in proper order; assists with special projects.
- Prepares library for opening to the public in the morning; closes library at the end of the business day.
- Empties book drop and processes incoming and outgoing circulating materials.
- Performs similar or related work as required, directed, or as situation dictates.
