Job Description

This position is responsible for staffing the three public service desks at the library. This requires a professional judgment in evaluating the request, understanding what the need is, determining what the best resource for the request is, and communicating that back to the student, as well as explaining how to find and use that resource. There is an expectation of technical skill in this position, including general computer skills and library - specific software.1. High level of thought and a thorough knowledge of the library and its resource when providing desk service to students, faculty, and staff. 2. Maintains library stacks, including re-shelving, reading and initiation of shifting projects. 3. Participates in and coordinates projects related to functional area responsibilities. 4. Monitors and recommends purchase of supplies for assigned areas. 5. Assists with upkeep of library equipment. 6. Other duties as assigned.

Associate Degree from a regionally accredited and one year of work experience in a library or bookstore; completion of college-level coursework and 2 years work experience in a library or bookstore.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics:
  • Knowledge of basic library policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of computer, library-related software, standard office equipment and procedures
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, etc.)
  • Customer service skills
  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds
