Job Summary Under the supervision of the Head Performance Librarian & Licensing manager, this role prepares print & digital materials to the highest possible industry standards for almost 50 ensembles & affiliated courses at SMTD, including orchestral, band, choral, jazz, academic ensembles and curricular courses. This position is responsible for the creation, management, and archival of concert programs for faculty, studio, masterclass, guest, and large ensemble performances & recitals. This hands-on role collaborates with an on-site team of student staff members who assist the Performance Library Staff with bowing, errata, cataloging, and printing & binding. Responsibilities•
PERFORMANCE LIBRARY STEWARDSHIP
Under the supervision of the Head Performance Librarian & Licensing Manager, this position will prepare physical & digital music to the highest possible standards, including bowings, errata, cuts and performance markings, foreign instrument terminology, and archival repair and storage. Curate the physical band, orchestral, choral, and jazz collections within the Performance Library - including the digitization of existing material, archival of excess or damaged material, and incorporation of new material into SMTD Ensembles Library collections according to Performance Library cataloging practices. Responsible for ensuring performance cycle dispersal of large ensemble materials to SMTD ensembles according to established distribution timelines. Compile and assess returned performance materials to return to rental publishers or return to Performance Library collection - ensuring that parts are undamaged and clean. Assist in preparing excerpt materials and administer changes to the audition library, history and rotation database in support of Fall and Winter term large ensemble auditions. Provide printing and binding support and services to both faculty and students of the Composition and Conducting departments, and other units as appropriate. Maintain consistent office hours that will allow scheduled collaboration with faculty, staff, and students, as well as enforce policies for use of resources within the SMTD Ensembles LibraryCONCERT PROGRAMS
With the support of the Head Performance Librarian & Licensing Manager, this position will implement and facilitate policies pertaining to SMTD large ensemble, faculty, studio, masterclass, and guest concert programs. Refine requested PDF proofs for edits and printing, as well as coordinate delivery of programs from U-M Copy Center. Manage and maintain the database of program information for student recitals. Report formal annual program information toASCAP & BMI
(and other Performing Rights Organizations as required). Collaborate with the SMTD Music Library to appropriately archive large ensemble, faculty, studio, masterclass, and guest concert programs. Retain physical programs for archive purposes.STUDENT STAFF SUPERVISION
Under the supervision of the Head Performance Librarian & Licensing Manager, this position will manage the daily workloads of 5-10 student workers. Monitors on-site student staff shifts to ensure projects are completed accurately and within appropriate time frames. Required Qualifications• Bachelor degree in music or related field. 3 years of training and experience in the field of performance librarianship Ability to manage a high volume of work and projects at one time, shift priorities quickly and communicate effectively Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; must be able to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to interact effectively with constituencies from across the University and school (faculty, staff, guest artists, and students) Understanding of basic musical terms in Western European Languages including German, Italian, and French Knowledge of general notation software such as Finale and Sibelius. Experience using Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Office Suite. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, communities, and cultures. Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and some holidays. This position involves traveling to various locations across campus to conduct assessments and deliver materials. This position routinely moves materials weighing up to 30 pounds across campus for various needs.
