Job Description

Learning Strategist & Student Support Guide Roots Academy | Cape Elizabeth, ME 0.75 FTE | 2025-2026 School Year | Flexible Schedule Roots Academy is a small, place-based microschool serving Kindergarten through Middle School students. We are seeking a skilled, reflective educator with experience in literacy, executive functioning, and individualized instruction to join our team. This role is central to our model. You will work closely with students and teachers to design and deliver personalized learning support across literacy, math, and executive functioning. In our small, relationship-driven environment, support is integrated into the classroom—not pulled out and siloed. This is a 0.75 FTE position with flexibility in scheduling across the school week. Key Responsibilities Design and implement individualized learning plans grounded in student strengths and needs Provide targeted, small-group and 1:1 instruction across literacy, math, and executive functioning Support students in building organization, planning, task initiation, and independence Deliver structured literacy instruction when appropriate (Orton-Gillingham or similar approach) Differentiate for a wide range of learners Collaborate closely with teachers to adapt instruction and integrate support within the classroom Track student progress through clear, consistent documentation and record-keeping Use observation and assessment to monitor growth and adjust instruction Communicate clearly with families about student progress and next steps Contribute to a thoughtful, student-centered school culture Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education, Special Education, or related field Experience with differentiated instruction across a wide range of learners Strong understanding of literacy development, math instruction, and executive functioning Familiarity with asynchronous development and the needs of gifted and twice-exceptional learners Training or experience in structured literacy (Orton-Gillingham or similar) preferred Highly organized, self-directed, and comfortable maintaining student records and documentation Experience working with neurodiverse learners Collaborative, flexible, and excited to work in a small, non-traditional school setting About Roots Academy At Roots, we balance strong academics with a deep commitment to child development.
