Job Overview The Elementary Music Teacher is responsible for fostering a love of music in young learners through engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction. This role includes teaching foundational music skills, encouraging creativity, and supporting students' social and emotional growth through musical experiences. The teacher designs and delivers standards-based instruction that is developmentally appropriate for elementary-aged students (grades K-5). Lessons are hands-on and interactive, often incorporating games, storytelling, and movement to support different learning styles and keep students actively engaged.

Essential Functions:

• Plan and deliver engaging music lessons aligned with curriculum standards
• Teach basic music concepts such as rhythm, melody, harmony, tempo, and dynamics
• Introduce students to singing, instruments, movement, and music appreciation
• Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs and learning styles
• Organize and direct performances, concerts, and school music events
• Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback
• Maintain a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment
• Collaborate with classroom teachers and staff to integrate music across subjects
• Manage classroom materials, instruments, and equipment responsibly
• Instructs students in the principles of responsible citizenship and other social and emotional skills.
• Works collaboratively with teaching partners, other colleagues, and parents/guardians
• Communicates regularly with parents by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, e-mails, conferences, etc.
• Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, and professional meetings.
• Participates in PLCs (professional learning communities) including data PLCs, committees, and curriculum planning PLCs
• Participates in a personal professional goal-setting process.
• Maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by school procedures
• Contributes to the life of the school outside the classroom. Skills/Qualifications
• Hold a MN teaching license in Music Education or related field
• Have comprehensive knowledge of subject(s) taught
• Strong vocal and/or instrumental skills
• Have knowledge of best practices, instructional strategies, classroom management and behavior management
• Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills with colleagues, students, and families
• Demonstrate respect for children, colleagues, parents and school leadership
• Can establish rapport and trusting relationships with people from diverse identities and cultural backgrounds.
• Serve as a role model for promoting effective instruction and professionalism
• Having knowledge of Positive Behavior Intervention & Supports (PBIS) and Responsive Classroom is a plus
