MIMA Music

Music Teacher

Job Description

MIMA (Modern Improvisational Music Appreciation) Music is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that aims to engage and enrich communities through music improvisation. We deliver collaborative music programs focused on improvisation, songwriting, and production through K-12 educational institutions and community organizations in the US, providing an alternative to the standard school music curriculum that prioritizes creation, relationship-building and fun. MIMA is looking to expand its Teaching Artist (TA) roster in preparation for the 2026-27 school year. TAs receive training in applying MIMA's curriculum in the classroom and are deployed in pairs in local schools and community organizations. TAs are contracted on a per-program basis, with each program typically taking place over 10 to 20 weeks. We are recruiting for our next TA training in August, 2026. MIMA programs serve youths (and sometimes adults) who vary greatly in age, musical interest/experience and upbringing. As such, our TA roster is composed of musicians and educators with varied experience and musical expertise. What they share is a sophisticated understanding of music that enables them to explore whatever tangents the creative process takes them and a passion for enriching the lives of young people. Previous classroom experience is a plus but not a requirement to be an effective TA in the MIMA classroom.
