Augsburg Fairview Academy | Minneapolis, MN 2026-2027 School Year Augsburg Fairview Academy (AFA) is seeking a relationship-centered, culturally responsive educator for a unique full-time combined position: 0.5 FTE Indigenous Education Coordinator 0.5 FTE Physical Education/Health Teacher AFA is a small public charter high school serving approximately 100 students. We are looking for someone who believes that culture, identity, belonging, relationships, and wellness are essential to student success.
What You'll Do:
Indigenous Education Coordinator Build strong relationships with American Indian students and families. Coordinate AFA's Indigenous Education programming, activities, and student supports. Support AIPAC meetings, family engagement, and required program documentation. Monitor student attendance, credit progress, engagement, and graduation progress. Connect students and families with Tribal, cultural, community, college, career, and scholarship resources. Develop partnerships with Native organizations, elders, cultural educators, and community partners. Support culturally responsive practices and Indigenous Education for All across the school. Physical Education & Health Teacher Teach high school PE and Health courses. Design engaging, standards-aligned lessons focused on lifelong health and wellness. Create accessible opportunities for students with varying abilities, interests, and previous experiences with PE. Build strong relationships and use restorative, trauma-responsive approaches. Assess student learning and collaborate with staff and families to support student success. We're Looking for Someone Who Builds authentic relationships with young people. Is culturally responsive, flexible, organized, and collaborative. Has knowledge of or a strong commitment to learning about American Indian communities, histories, cultures, and Tribal sovereignty. Is passionate about student health, wellness, and belonging. Can balance teaching responsibilities with program coordination and family/community engagement. Works well in a small-school environment where staff support students beyond their individual job titles. Licensure Because this position includes classroom teaching, applicants must hold or be eligible to obtain an appropriate Minnesota teaching license for Physical Education and/or Health. AFA welcomes candidates who may qualify through a Minnesota alternative or Tier 1 licensure pathway. Preferred Experience Experience in one or more of the following is strongly preferred: Physical Education or Health instruction Indigenous or American Indian Education Youth development Family/community engagement Restorative or trauma-responsive practices Urban education AIPAC or American Indian Education programming You do not need to have extensive experience in every area to apply.
