This vital role combines driving duties with light maintenance tasks, creating a dynamic environment that promotes safety, reliability, and excellent service. You will be a key player in fostering a positive experience for children, parents, and staff alike, all while adhering to safety regulations and demonstrating exceptional communication skills. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a community-focused organization. Duties Safely operate passenger vans following all traffic laws and transportation safety regulations. Transport children to and from the daycare and special events with punctuality and care. Assist children with wheelchair access and other mobility needs, ensuring their comfort and safety during transit. Maintain awareness of traffic conditions; respond quickly to traffic changes or emergencies with appropriate driving techniques such as emergency stops or evasive maneuvers. Conduct routine vehicle inspections; perform light maintenance tasks such as fluid checks, tire pressure adjustments, basic cleaning to ensure vehicle readiness, and any other maintenance duties needed on the grounds of the daycare facility. Support child behavior management during transit by applying positive discipline techniques and maintaining a calm environment. Communicate effectively with parents, staff, and emergency responders when necessary; document incidents or vehicle issues accurately. Qualifications Valid standard driver's license with experience in bus driving highly preferred. Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations applicable to school bus or van operation. Experience working with children or in childcare environments; familiarity with student discipline and behavior management strategies. Certification in first aid and CPR; knowledge of emergency response procedures for transportation situations is essential. Ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary for loading/unloading mobility devices or supplies. Strong communication skills preferred with staff and parents Defensive driving skills; quick response capability to traffic changes; understanding of school policy guidelines related to student safety. Basic mechanical skills for light vehicle maintenance; ability to follow detailed instructions for vehicle upkeep and any other maintenance duties on the grounds of the daycare facility.
