DJP provides opportunities and financial support for teachers to grow professionally including attainment of a bachelor's degree in early childhood education or child development. Partnering with other Prek teachers in the classroom and providing comprehensive high-quality early education and child development services. Daily routines promote children's cognitive, social, health, and emotional growth for later success in school. The teacher receives regular on-going support from the lead teacher and the education specialist (coach) to implement the agency's Languages of Learning curriculum that includes creating a safe and enriching environment, embedding responsive and effective teacher-child interactions, and fostering partnerships with families by respecting values, strengths, and cultures and welcoming parent's contributions and participation. The teacher position is funded for eight hours per day Monday through Friday, working directly with children for 6.75 hours per day four days of the week. When children are not attending class, the teacher participates in activities such as planning lessons, documenting children's work and outcomes, entering and analyzing child and family data, setting goals, and attending professional development opportunities. The teacher serves as the lead teacher when the lead teacher is absent or steps out of the classroom. Responsibilities Implementing educational programs and activities for students. Support children with autism and other special needs in their daily learning experiences. Provide care for toddlers and preschool-aged children, ensuring their safety and well-being. Help develop and adapt curriculum materials to meet the individual needs of students. Foster a positive classroom environment by encouraging student engagement and participation. Collaborate with teachers and staff to monitor student progress and behavior. Maintain a clean and organized classroom setting conducive to learning. Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress and classroom activities. Experience Previous experience working FOCUS and Prek grant program are
REQUIRED.
Familiarity with early childhood education principles and practices is highly desirable. Experience in curriculum development or adapting educational materials for diverse learners is a plus. Knowledge of childhood development stages, particularly for toddlers and preschoolers. Understanding of the unique challenges faced by students with autism or other developmental disorders is beneficial. A background in private school settings or specialized educational programs is advantageous. In support of ongoing, intensive professional development, Prek teacher will attend and participate in all scheduled trainings, engage in coaching cycles with their Lead Teachers, develop individual plans for their own professional development, and be working towards a bachelor's degree in early childhood education degree. The ability to communicate with a broader range of people, including Spanish speakers, is an advantage but not essential.
