Job Description

The School of Business and Professional Studies at Truman State University seeks applicants for non-tenure track, 9-month Instructor position in Communication Disorders to start August 2027. This position is a full-time, nine-month appointment located on Truman's campus in Kirksville, Missouri. In addition to the duties and responsibilities described below, faculty are expected to contribute to the campus culture of the Liberal Arts and Sciences and interdisciplinarity by teaching in the University's core curriculum (The Dialogues) and contributing to interdisciplinary initiatives and coursework as needed. There is potential for a successful candidate to develop a collaborative relationship with the new Greenwood Autism Center. Non-tenure-track, term Instructor appointments are subject to annual renewal. The initial term of the appointment is three years. Additional three-year terms may continue indefinitely based on the needs and budget of the university and positive performance review.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will contribute to the Communication Disorders program by offering undergraduate and graduate courses in speech-language pathology. The position is expected to teach 12 credit hours per semester. Clinical instruction is expected of all Communication Disorders (CMDS) full-time faculty and is included in overall course load calculation. The CMDS MA program runs year-round, requiring at least part-time clinical instruction duties in the summer of most academic years. Faculty providing summer supervision will receive corresponding summer compensation.
Required Qualifications:
Required qualifications include
  • Master's degree in communication disorders or closely related area (e.g., speech and hearing science)
  • Current ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech-Language-Pathology
  • Eligibility for unrestricted licensure as a speech-language pathologist in Missouri
  • Evidence and/or demonstrated potential for teaching effectiveness in Communication Disorders
  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills; and
  • Evidence of commitment to the liberal arts and sciences
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to teach a variety of courses within the department
  • Evidence of or demonstrated potential for mentoring students in transformative learning experiences such as undergraduate and graduate research, service-learning, study abroad, and clinical practicum;
