MarinChess Location:
Oakland $50-$70/hour MarinChess is hiring enthusiastic and reliable after school chess instructors to teach beginner-level chess to elementary and middle school students in the Bay Area. We're especially looking for college students who enjoy teaching, mentoring, and sharing their love of chess, but anyone passionate about chess and working with kids is welcome to apply. As an after school chess instructor , you'll help students build critical thinking, strategy, and problem-solving skills in a supportive and engaging environment. Our sessions run once a week for 6-12 weeks, with each class lasting one hour. We require a commitment of at least two school semesters.
What We're Looking For:
Strong understanding of chess fundamentals (minimum
ELO 1000
preferred but not required) Passion for teaching and inspiring young minds through chess Excellent communication and classroom management skills Ability to create an inclusive and engaging learning environment Reliable transportation and ability to commute to schools in Oakland Experience working with children in group settings (teaching, coaching, tutoring, or mentoring is a plus) Responsibilities -
After School Chess Instructor:
Lead fun, structured, and educational chess lessons following the MarinChess curriculum Foster a positive and encouraging atmosphere where students of all skill levels feel supported Manage classroom dynamics effectively and ensure an inclusive learning space. Provide individualized guidance and support to students as needed Serve as an ambassador for MarinChess, maintaining strong relationships with schools and parents About Us MarinChess is the leading provider of after-school chess programs in the San Francisco Bay Area, offering engaging and educational chess instruction at over 100 elementary and middle schools. Our mission is to make chess accessible to all students while equipping them with valuable life skills like critical thinking, decision-making, and resilience.
