A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.
Special Education Teacher K-8 - Arizona Certification Required Prescott Valley Charter School - Prescott Valley, Arizona Prescott Valley Charter School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Arizona-certified Special Education Teacher to join our team. We currently have two potential assignments available: K-4 Resource Special Education Teacher Grades 4-8 Self-Contained Special Education Teacher Candidates may be considered for either assignment based on certification, experience, strengths, and preferred student population. We are a small charter school looking for a teacher who believes students with disabilities can make meaningful academic and personal growth when provided with high expectations, individualized instruction, consistency, structure, and appropriate support. Available Assignments K-4 Resource Special Education The K-4 Resource Special Education Teacher provides specially designed instruction and support to students with disabilities who participate primarily in the general education setting.
Responsibilities include:
Provide individual and small-group designed instruction based on student IEP goals and identified needs. Support students in reading, writing, mathematics, behavior, executive functioning, and other areas identified through the IEP process. Collaborate with general education teachers to support students within the general education curriculum and environment. Implement appropriate accommodations, modifications, and instructional strategies. Monitor student progress and adjust instruction based on data. Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Participate in evaluations, eligibility determinations, annual reviews, and other required special education meetings. Maintain accurate documentation of services and student progress. Communicate regularly and professionally with parents and families. Collaborate with paraprofessionals, related-service providers, administration, and other members of the IEP team. Ensure services and supports identified in students' IEPs are appropriately implemented. Grades 4-8 Self-Contained Special Education The Grades 4-8 Self-Contained Special Education Teacher provides a structured and supportive learning environment for students who require more intensive special education services.
Responsibilities include:
Provide individualized and small-group instruction based on students' academic, behavioral, functional, and developmental needs. Differentiate instruction for students working at varying academic and developmental levels. Provide instruction in core academic areas as appropriate to student needs and IEPs. Develop and implement structured classroom routines and effective positive behavior supports. Teach and reinforce communication, independence, social, organizational, and functional skills as appropriate. Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Collect and analyze data to measure progress toward IEP goals. Provide appropriate accommodations and modifications. Collaborate with general education teachers to provide appropriate inclusion opportunities based on individual student needs. Supervise and provide direction to assigned special education paraprofessionals. Collaborate with related-service providers, families, administration, and other members of the IEP team. Maintain a safe, positive, organized, and student-centered classroom environment.
Required Qualifications Applicants must:
Hold a current Arizona teaching certificate in Special Education appropriate for the assigned grade levels and student population. Hold a current Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety. Meet all certification and appropriately certified requirements applicable to the teaching assignment. Demonstrate knowledge of special education law, IEP development and implementation, progress monitoring, accommodations and modifications, and specially designed instruction. Be able to develop, implement, and maintain compliant IEPs and required special education documentation. Demonstrate effective classroom and behavior-management skills. Communicate professionally and collaboratively with students, families, teachers, paraprofessionals, related-service providers, and administration. Maintain confidentiality and comply with all federal, state, and school requirements related to students with disabilities. Arizona Special Education certification and a valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card are required for this position. Preferred Qualifications Previous special education teaching experience. Experience providing resource services in an elementary setting and/or teaching in a self-contained special education classroom. Experience working with students with a range of disabilities and learning needs. Strong knowledge of evidence-based academic and behavioral interventions. Experience supervising and working collaboratively with paraprofessionals.
