Program Description:
Backcountry Wellness is an eating disorder treatment program founded with the mission of bridging comprehensive recovery with the demands of real life. Our treatment philosophy embraces compassion and understanding, safety and nurturing, and a focus on family involvement to equip our patients with the tools to make lasting changes within their lives. Backcountry Wellness provides immersive programming for children and adolescents who live with Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating, Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake, Orthorexia, and Other Specific Feeding and Eating Disorders (OSFED).
Job Summary:
The Mindful Movement Instructor is responsible for conducting movement and yoga classes with the eating disorder patients. The Mindful Movement Instructor is an important part of exposing eating disorder patients to exercise and movement in a supportive and contained environment. The Mindful Movement Instructor should be in close communication with the treatment team in regards to the extent in which a patient struggles with movement, weight goals/setbacks, medical clearance for exercise, and any other details as they apply to the patient's ability to use exercise in a healthy and helpful way. As patients become more in touch with their body and work towards their eating disorder recovery, the Mindful Movement Instructor plays an essential role in assisting the connection of the patient's body and mind as they heal physically, mentally, nutritionally, emotionally, spiritually, and interpersonally through the treatment process.
Essential Job Functions:
Conduct mindful movement classes in the residential and day program facilities Collaborate with the broader treatment team regarding patient progress, challenges, and observations during movement classes Lead or support additional movement, mindfulness, or wellness-based classes based on experience, qualifications, and program needs Create a tranquil and safe environment within BCW facilities Communicate with treatment team any concerns about the use of eating disorder behaviors during this movement Receive updates from staff regarding patients' ability or inability to participate in mindful movement classes Record patient notes and attendance Responsible for direct supervision of patients Set up and take down all props and equipment used during class Demonstrate professionalism and act as a role model for patients Be on time and reliable as a key resource for the program to run properly Perform other duties as assigned by management
Required Experience:
Prior experience as a Yoga Instructor Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) credential Ability to collaborate effectively with clinical and multidisciplinary treatment teams Strong communication skills and ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries Additional training or experience in complementary wellness or holistic healing modalities is preferred, such as meditation, breathwork, mindfulness, somatic practices, or other movement-based practices Experience working in behavioral health, eating disorder treatment, or with children and adolescents is preferred
Schedule:
Approximately 2-4 hours per week Weekend availability required Schedule may vary based on program needs
