A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Salary and benefits are in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
Responsibilities:
Works collaboratively with individual student teams Provide Case Manager services, including development, implementation, and monitoring of IEP goals and objectives; liaison with general education teachers; communication with home; running Team meetings; utilizing CT-SEDS to manage IEPs Attends PPTs and other meetings for assigned students and present up to date information on progress toward goals and objectives Conducts and presents educational testing results, using this information to review and revise current IEP goals and objectives Collects and manages data pertaining to various student goals and objectives Ensures that all related services and class accommodations are being implemented in the appropriate settings Participates in professional development and other meetings with the special education department and school-wide faculty Provides co-teaching partnerships in general education classes; adapts and modifies curriculum materials and instructional approaches; serves as a resource to the general education staff in regards to working with a diverse learner population Provides direct instruction in reading, writing, and/or mathematics so students are able to meet or close the gap in meeting district-wide benchmarks Implement and monitor behavior support and incentive plans for assigned students Provide supervision and ongoing training for paraprofessional staff working with students
Qualifications:
CT teaching certification in Special Education K-12. Master's Degree preferred Prior experience working with adolescents is preferred Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills Must be flexible, creative, and demonstrates strong organizational skills Must be highly motivated and self-directed
