Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Step into a fulfilling role shaping the lives of young learners as a Special Education Teacher at a welcoming school near Aurora, IL. This full-time contract opportunity focuses on a K-2 classroom, serving a small group of students—currently nine, with a maximum of ten. You'll find a supportive environment, where collaboration with paraprofessionals, a speech-language pathologist (SLP), and dedicated administrative leadership is a daily standard. The position begins October 12 or November 9 and continues through the end of the school year. Your classroom will benefit from strong resources, including para support and a team focused on helping you and your students succeed.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
Valid Special Education teaching credentials required Substantial background working with children on the autism spectrum (ASD) Experience instructing students who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices Confidence adapting instructional strategies to individual needs Commitment to fostering a positive, structured, and inclusive environment
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver engaging, individualized instruction by adapting lesson plans to diverse learning profiles Implement IEPs and collaborate with team members (including paras, SLP, and principal) to achieve student goals Utilize AAC devices to support communication for students who benefit from assistive technology Monitor progress and maintain accurate documentation to inform ongoing support and growth Foster supportive relationships with students, modeling patience and encouragement throughout the school day As a valued educator in this setting, your expertise and compassion will create meaningful opportunities for early elementary learners.
