Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Make a meaningful impact throughout the New Orleans area by providing exceptional support as a certified special education teacher. This engaging, full-time contract opportunity offers a dynamic itinerant role—travel between multiple schools within the district, sharing your expertise with colleagues and enhancing the educational experience for students with special needs. You'll collaborate directly with non-certified teachers, offering mentorship in best practices, instructional strategies, and special education documentation. Your skills will be invaluable in shaping individualized education plans and delivering the supports crucial for student success.
Key Qualifications:
Active Louisiana DOE Certification with SPED endorsement (required; substitutes or alternative credentials not accepted) Experience working with K-12 special education students within school settings Working knowledge of IEP development, implementation, and monitoring Strong organizational skills for supporting progress reports and data collection Excellent communication and collaboration abilities Able to pass district-required drug testing, fingerprinting, and a comprehensive agency background check
Core Responsibilities:
Serve as a resource and guide for non-certified special education teachers across multiple schools Provide hands-on support for instructional planning and effective classroom management Mentor and train staff in IEP writing, implementing accommodations, and progress monitoring Engage in detailed data collection and reporting to ensure student growth and compliance Foster a positive, inclusive environment where every student's needs are met This contract position runs through the end of the school year (ASAP through May 27, 2027), following a standard Monday-Friday, full-time schedule based on the academic calendar.
