Multiple positions are available for dedicated professionals passionate about Special Education, working with K-12 self-contained or resource classrooms in vibrant urban settings. Key Qualifications:
Valid Michigan Teacher Certificate with Learning Disabilities endorsement (LD). EI (Emotional Impairment), CI (Cognitive Impairment), or MDE ZA (Early Childhood) endorsements accepted and preferred. Degree in Special Education; official university transcripts required prior to placement. Experience or strong interest in teaching children with diverse learning, emotional, and cognitive challenges. Familiarity with the Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE) and related IDEA federal regulations. Confident discussing the challenges faced by urban students and suggesting resources to support families. Willingness to work onsite; remote (VOCO) positions are not available.
Responsibilities Include:
Teaching in self-contained classrooms (up to 22 students) or in resource classroom settings. Collaborating with special education teams, classroom paraprofessionals, behavior specialists, and one-on-one paras as needed. Designing and implementing individualized education plans that encourage student development. Participating in ongoing training, mentorship, and professional development supplied by school academic teams. Creating a supportive, structured classroom environment.
