Job Description

George Washington Carver Academy is hiring a Special Education Teacher t o join the team. Must have Michigan Teacher Certification and endorsement. George Washington Carver Academy is a PreK - 8th grade public charter school located in Highland Park. Our mission extends beyond academics. We foster a nurturing environment where scholars freely engage in the learning process, preparing them to positively impact their community. We are committed to hiring certified, professional teachers, to ensure our students have success. We are seeking a full-time Special Education Teacher to join our team. The Special Education Teacher will be responsible for providing instruction and support to students with special needs, ensuring that they receive appropriate educational services and accommodations.
Responsibilities:
Develop and deliver standards-aligned instruction for diverse learning needs. Create and implement IEPs and provide individualized, small-group, and co-taught instruction. Provide academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support using evidence-based strategies. Monitor student progress, assess learning, and adjust instruction as needed. Maintain accurate student records and service documentation. Collaborate with general education teachers, families, and school staff to support student success and inclusion. Stay current on special education practices and participate in professional development, meetings, and school activities. Maintain a safe, positive, and supportive learning environment. Communicate effectively with students, families, and staff. Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Special Education; Master's degree preferred. Valid Michigan teaching certification/license with a Special Education endorsement. Experience working with students with disabilities and developing/implementing IEPs. Strong knowledge of special education practices and instructional strategies. Excellent communication, organization, and relationship-building skills.
Physical & Cognitive Requirements:
Supervise multiple students and maintain effective classroom routines. Frequently stand and walk; occasionally lift/move up to 25 lbs., bend, squat, or sit on the floor. Assist students as needed and perform first aid/CPR when necessary. Work effectively in varying weather and moderate noise conditions.

$42,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
