Qualifications Valid Minnesota Teaching License in Special Education. We are looking for a team-oriented individual that is comfortable and experienced in working with students needing support in the school day (academics, social skills, daily living skills). Job Summary Under the direction of the Building Principal, the Special Education Teacher is responsible for assisting the District in assessing and identifying students with special needs such as learning disabilities, health impairments, developmental cognitive delays or other similar needs according to eligibility criteria. The Special Education Teacher plans for, develops and implements individualized education programs and instruction in academic areas in collaboration with other educational professionals, parents and administrators in designing, modifying and delivering educational services. Essential duties outlined below are intended as "representative" examples of the level, nature and decision making expected of positions assigned to this classification. Summary of Duties Provide direct special education services for students who have disabilities. Work with classroom teachers to facilitate opportunities for students to participate in the mainstream classroom. Provide work direction and support to the assigned Educational Assistants. Communicate with families regarding students' educational programming and progress. Perform educational assessments of students as required. Ensure that due process requirements are being followed. Plan, develop and write individualized learning goals, objectives, learning strategies and behavior management plans for students with special needs and lesson plans for instructions. Address and perform crisis intervention and behavioral interventions. Participate and/or facilitate meetings with parents, teachers, administration or other educational professionals.
