A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Are you ready to join a team of exceptional certified educators at Paterson Public Schools - the third largest school district in New Jersey? We are looking for teachers who are experts in their content area, are committed to improving student achievement, and will bring enthusiasm to the classroom. To be considered for an interview, please apply! We are seeking highly motivated, energetic, and enthusiastic certified educators for the 2026-27 school year. We are accepting resumes for bilingual teachers certified by the State of New Jersey to teach in our bilingual classrooms at various grade levels and content areas, in Spanish or Bangla and English. We are most in need of Spanish speaking bilingual teachers, though we also have a need for Turkish, Bangla, and Arabic speaking bilingual teachers at times as well. Highest need areas are middle school and high school content areas, especially math and science. Certificates must be issued prior to beginning position. Viable candidates must hold certificates issued by the New Jersey Department of Education, or meet the requirements for certification, with an endorsement in Bilingual Bicultural Education AND in one or more of the following areas. Preschool through Grade 3 Kindergarten through Grade 6
ESL Middle School ELA Middle School Math Biology Chemistry Mathematics English Social Studies Middle School Social Studies Middle School Science Physics Qualifications:
Must hold New Jersey Bilingual certificate with an instructional certificate in line with the content/grade level appropriate for the position held Knowledge of the NJSLS and NJSLA Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis and research related to learning and children needing to learn English as a second language. Ability to analyze and use data to drive instruction Experience working with students Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and good moral character Must be a critical thinker, problem solver, and respect others Must be computer literate and able to use interactive computer instructional software Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with staff, students, parents, and the community For more information about this position, please visit the Job Descriptions page.
