A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Special Education Certification Full Job Description Qualifications:
Appropriate New Jersey teacher certificate (K-6, Middle School and/or
K-12, AND
Students with Disabilities) Knowledge of New Jersey State Learning Standards Effective instructional practices and strategies Ability to analyze and use data to drive instruction Experience working with elementary, middle, or high school students in a self-contained setting a plus Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and good moral character Must be a critical thinker, problem solver, and respect others Must be computer literate and able to use Google Classroom, use interactive computer instructional software Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, with students, staff, parents, administrators, and the community
