A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Job Description

No letters of recommendation can be written by a current Wappingers Central School District employee. The Wappingers Central School District is seeking candidates to fill an anticipated Special Education (Secondary) Teacher position beginning in the 2026-27 school year with an effective start date of September 15, 2026. This is a full-time, probationary, tenure track position. Only those holding a Students With Disabilities (7-12 or All Grades) certificate will be considered for the position. Although the certificate required for the position is specific, the school in which the position will be located has yet to be determined. The WCSD offers competitive salaries, comprehensive benefits, professional development and mentor support. Candidates must be prepared to provide additional documents to complete a candidate folder, including three letters of recommendation bearing the writers' signatures, dated within the last 18 months, a valid teaching certificate, and transcripts.

No letters of recommendation can be written by a current Wappingers Central School District employee.
Qualifications:
Only those candidates holding valid NYSED certifications in Students With Disabilities 7-12 or All Grades will be considered.
