Job Description Special Education Teacher (Leave Replacement) November 2026-March 2027 Program includes: 2 periods 8:1 Special Classes (COORE Consumer and Communication)
3 periods Vocational Program - 15:1 Prep for the Future Overview of 8:1: Students with disabilities with the most intensive support needs are educated in this program. Classes focus on life skills, social skills, functional communication, pre-vocational and vocational skills.
Overview of Vocational Program:
The Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District is seeking a special education leave replacement teacher for our High School 15:1 Vocational Special Class program (Prep Program) at Sanford H. Calhoun High School. Experience teaching students with severe and multiple disabilities with a focus on functional academics, functional communication, prevocational skills and/or life skills is highly preferred.
Responsibilities:
Daily meetings with the Job Coaches before the start of the program
Design instruction for class periods
Organize daily/weekly schedule
Plan community trips with transportation department
Create lessons and activities for job coaches to implement when teacher is not assigned Supervise students at in house job sites/community job sites
Monitor data collection to made adjustments to program
Participate in CSEs
Complete Vocational sections of the students' IEP
Maintain Career Plan and Employability Profile for each student
Job Qualifications Requirements:
NYS Teacher Certification required (SWD - All Grades)
Experience working in a 8:1 and/or 15:1 setting preferred
Experience with job training preferred
