A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.
We have an opening for a Special Education Teacher to co-teach Math in 3rd & 4th grade. New employees are expected to attend New Teacher Orientation on August 13th & 14th, and the week of staff professional development beginning August 17th. First day of school for students is August 24, 2026. An SLCS teacher is responsible for planning, instruction, activities and assessments based on the SLCS curriculum. Teachers are tasked with creating an integrated instructional program that supports an inclusion-based learning approach fostering a safe environment that respects academic and cultural diversity. Additionally, teachers are expected to work together with other teaching and support professionals in a collaborative manner to provide teaching strategies and methods that address a wide range of learning styles, individual needs, interests, abilities, and maturity levels of students. Among other things, the Special Education Teacher is responsible for: Assessing students' developmental, cognitive, emotional and social needs, and learning styles; providing developmentally appropriate instruction to meet those needs Completing academic testing as required, utilizing the resulting information along with classroom observations to identify students to be placed in or out of the Special Education program Working collaboratively with classroom teachers to develop and implement developmentally appropriate instruction and activities that integrate, support, and expand the SLCS curricula Developing, monitoring, and reporting on all IEPs within the established guidelines Ensuring differentiated instruction, accommodations, modifications and other IEP considerations are occurring consistently as outlined in the IEP Acting as an advocate for all students to ensure that their needs are being met Evaluating student performance and sharing information with the classroom teacher, support teachers, and administration Working in cooperation with classroom teachers to identify students who may be at risk academically and/or behaviorally
Position Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Education or related field Pennsylvania Department of Education Certification in Special Education PK-8 or K-12 Understanding and commitment to inclusive learning Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment Strong research, planning, and organizational skills Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to positively interact with students to encourage development Experience with MS Office, Google Suite Thank you for your interest in a position with School Lane Charter School.
