Position Overview SheWorks is looking for an experienced and thoughtful Lead Teacher to lead our early childhood classroom and play an important role in the continued growth of our childcare program. Our program is open and welcoming families, with a strong philosophy centered around relationship-based care, emotional development, play, consistency, and the way children naturally learn and grow. We're looking for someone who can confidently step into the classroom, create a warm and consistent experience for children and families, and take ownership of the day-to-day classroom environment. While SheWorks has established policies, systems, and an overall program philosophy in place, we deeply value the expertise and perspective of our educators. This is a role for someone who doesn't simply wait for direction, but notices opportunities, brings ideas forward, communicates openly, and feels energized by helping a growing program continue to evolve. As Lead Teacher, you'll have meaningful ownership over classroom rhythm, activities, materials, family relationships, and the overall experience children have while they're with us. Our Approach to Learning Our program blends play-based and emergent learning with intentional structure and daily rhythm. In practice, this means: Children learn through exploration, creativity, and play. Teachers guide learning through observation and engagement rather than rigid lesson plans. Emotional regulation and social development are central to the classroom experience. Daily routines provide consistency while allowing flexibility based on the needs of the group. Relationships with children and families are valued just as highly as academics. As Lead Teacher, you'll play an active role in shaping the classroom experience, adapting activities, and creating an environment that feels both grounded and responsive. ResponsibilitiesClassroom & Program Leadership Lead a classroom of children ages 2.5-6 in a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment. Implement and continue developing our play-based, relationship-centered approach. Establish and maintain daily rhythms that balance structure with flexibility. Foster emotional development and positive social interactions. Create a classroom culture rooted in respect, curiosity, creativity, and belonging. Observe children's development and adapt activities and approaches based on the needs of the group. Take ownership of the overall classroom experience and proactively identify opportunities for improvement. Bring forward ideas for activities, materials, routines, and ways to strengthen the program. Family Relationships Build strong, trusting relationships with children and parents. Communicate openly and professionally with families. Help families feel connected to and confident in their child's experience at SheWorks. Participate in family tours and support the transition of new children into the classroom when needed. Team Leadership Collaborate closely with SheWorks leadership on the continued development of the childcare program. Provide guidance and support to assistant teachers and additional classroom staff as the team grows. Help create consistency in classroom expectations, routines, and care. Participate in onboarding and supporting future classroom team members. Operations Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment. Follow all applicable health, safety, and childcare requirements. Support documentation, incident reporting, and classroom procedures. Communicate needs or concerns proactively with leadership. Help ensure the classroom is prepared and organized for each session. Qualifications Preferred Experience leading or supporting a preschool, childcare, or early childhood classroom. Experience working with children ages 2.5-6. Degree or coursework in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field preferred. Strong understanding of child development and social-emotional learning. Excellent communication and leadership skills. Ability to create both structure and flexibility within the classroom. Strong judgment and confidence managing the needs of young children. Comfortable taking initiative and working in a growing environment. Current CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain. Schedule This is a full-time, in-person position at SheWorks in Tacoma. Our childcare program operates in two half-day sessions:

Morning Session:

8:00 AM-11:00

AM Afternoon Session:

12:00 PM-3:00 PM Typical Lead Teacher hours are approximately 7:30 AM-3:00 PM , allowing time for classroom preparation, transitions, and reset between sessions. We are looking for someone who is available to join our team as soon as possible .
