Until filled Greenwich Public Schools seeks a long-term substitute mathematics teacher from approximately November 4, 2026, through approximately December 22, 2026; the position carries full salary and benefits for the duration of the assignment. Position Purpose To provide an instructional program that will help students to: Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them Reason abstractly and quantitatively Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others Model with mathematics Use appropriate tools strategically Attend to precision Look for and make use of structure Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning Essential Responsibilities Implements GPS mathematics curriculum consistent with school district goals, mission and vision. Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning. Promotes a classroom environment that allows students the opportunity to solve rigorous real-world math problems. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction. Incorporates inquiry-based learning opportunities into instruction. Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual small group instruction as needed. Provides appropriate, meaningful, and timely feedback to improve student achievement. Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings. Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws. Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents. Ensures that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. Coordinates with other school professional staff members, especially within grade level, to evaluate and assess curriculum, and participates in faculty meetings and committees. Maintains familiarity with district and Connecticut State standardized tests for the purpose of adapting curriculum to maximize student achievement on such tests. Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent. Incorporates technology and digital tools appropriately into instruction. Reviews and implements modifications, accommodations, and intervention plans for all students both general and special education. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles. Knowledge of GPS Mathematics curriculum, Connecticut Core State Standards for Mathematics and the Standards for Mathematical Practice. Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans. Ability to use a learning management system and software applications as needed. Ability to utilize a learning management system to interact and engage students. Ability to organize and coordinate work. Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents. Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work. Ability to provide students with opportunities to develop critical thinking skills, while affording opportunity for creative activity. Ability to collaborate with instructional teams. Ability to employ a variety of teaching techniques through the use of appropriate instructional materials to meet the needs of all learners. Ability to provide students the opportunity to be critical thinkers of online content. Equipment Use of district-issued digital tools. Qualifications Profile CT State Certification, or certifiability, in Mathematics, Grades 7-12 (#029) required
