Job Description

Willow Hill School is seeking a Long-Term Substitute English Language Arts Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. Dates are from January 19 - June 11, 2027.

Founded in 1970, Willow Hill School provides a supportive and individualized educational program for middle and high school students who are capable of advancing through a strong academic curriculum but may have experienced frustration in previous school settings.

Located in Sudbury, Massachusetts, Willow Hill School serves students in grades 6 through 12.

The Long-Term Substitute English Language Arts Teacher will provide consistent classroom instruction and support with provided lesson plans during an extended teacher absence. The ideal candidate will be flexible, collaborative, and committed to creating a supportive learning environment that meets the individual needs of our students.

The ideal candidate will have a strong content knowledge of English Language Arts Concepts and prior teaching experience is preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach 5-6 sections of English Language Arts classes to small groups of up to 8 students.
  • Follow established and provided curriculum, lesson plans, and course expectations while adapting instruction as needed.
  • Use the provided lessons, materials, and activities for the class.
  • Monitor and assess student progress and provide timely feedback.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administration to meet the changing academic and social-emotional needs of students.
  • Collaborate with other departments to coordinate student support and ensure continuity of instruction.
  • Maintain regular communication with appropriate faculty, administrators, and families regarding student progress when needed.
    Desired Qualifications and Skills
  • Previous teaching or long-term substitute teaching experience preferred.
  • Experience working with students with learning differences in a school setting is highly desirable.
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Flexibility and the ability to adapt instruction to individual student needs.
  • Commitment to Willow Hill School's mission, values, and vision.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and work as part of a team.
