Aug 26, 2026 Job Description The Orleans Southwest Supervisory Union and its Member School Districts are seeking experienced, reliable substitute teachers and instructional assistants to join our team of educators. In this position, you will work in the absence of our regular staff aiding students in their daily tasks and helping ensure the understanding of the subject matter being covered. Our substitute team members should possess the skills needed to cover daily instruction and run the classroom environment in an orderly fashion. Substitutes are professionals who play a vital role in the ongoing education of students.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Use materials provided to attain lesson goals Direct the classroom, accomplishing curriculum objectives and goals outlined in the lesson plans Take attendance according to the procedures of the school, keep the classroom and work orderly, and maintain normal classroom rhythms Comply with all procedures, guidelines, and policies of the school at all times Maintain a professional attitude in all manner of conduct with students, faculty, and parents, including a commitment to confidentiality
Substitute Teacher/Instructional Assistant Requirements and Qualifications:
High school diploma required; college degree preferred College students are strongly encouraged to apply A certificate in teaching is a plus Detail-oriented and able to follow written and/or oral instructions Able to communicate effectively with other personnel and faculty Able to cultivate relationships with pupils in a brief period Confidence and capability in instructing in the absence of the regular teacher Willing and able to work standing for most of the day with few breaks to sit Willing and able to work outdoors for recess, outdoor education, and field trips
