We are hiring a temporary, part-time Community Resilience Program Assistant to cover an employee's leave of absence. We are looking to fill this position immediately.
About this assignment:
This is a temporary position covering a staff leave. The assignment runs from hire through December 18, 2026 , which is MCM's last working day of the year. The employee on leave is expected to return November 28, 2026, and the weeks that follow are built in as a transition period so that projects, contacts, and records hand off cleanly. If the employee on leave does not return, MCM may consider the temporary employee for the ongoing position. Continued employment beyond the assignment is not guaranteed and would depend on organizational need and available funding. The Program Assistant works as part of the Community Resilience Team on projects that build community engagement and participation in issues affecting community well-being, with an emphasis on environment and climate justice. This includes supporting policy, planning, and advocacy strategies that inform community members about issues they have identified as affecting them, and coordinating programs that give community members the information and skills to take part in advocacy efforts. The role calls for strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to community, sustainability, climate action, and environmental justice. The ideal candidate has an interest in community organizing and advocacy and experience working with historically underrepresented communities. Spanish/English bilingual proficiency is required. What You'll Do Provide day-to-day support for Community Resilience Program projects, with emphasis on climate justice, including scheduling, logistics, and documentation Assist in preparing reports, presentations, grant proposals, and communication materials Support research on environmental issues such as climate adaptation, sustainability practices, and community resilience Support data collection and monitoring for project evaluation, including fieldwork as needed Coordinate with community members, partner organizations, and stakeholders to support inclusive engagement Assist in planning and facilitating meetings, community workshops, and trainings Assist with coordination of volunteers and interns Track budgets, invoices, and project expenses Maintain organized files and databases for project records Help ensure planning and policy work is presented through a cultural competency lens What We're Looking ForRequired At least 1-2 years of experience in community organizing, community engagement, or project support — in nonprofit, environmental, advocacy, or comparable settings. A college degree is not required. We welcome applicants whose experience comes from organizing, volunteer, or community work rather than formal education. Spanish/English bilingual writing and conversational skills Strong written and verbal communication skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, Canva or similar, and project management tools Ability to work collaboratively with diverse communities and partners Ability to use a personal vehicle for local travel (mileage reimbursed at the standard federal rate); must be insurable under MCM's auto policy Preferred Knowledge of climate change, nature-based solutions, sustainability, or environmental justice issues Coursework or a degree in environmental studies, community organizing and advocacy, or a related field A communication style that builds team relationships and a service-oriented approach toward other departments Self-motivated, with initiative to develop systems and procedures Interest in collaborating with MCM staff and management to advance our mission Compensation and Benefits $29.00 per hour Paid sick leave, accrued in accordance with California law Mileage reimbursement at the standard federal rate for work-related local travel Physical Requirements Ability to sit and stand for extended periods and use a computer Ability to occasionally lift up to 15 lbs Ability to operate a motor vehicle for travel around Marin County Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions.
