GED Full Job Description Position Summary:
The Special Education Paraprofessional supports the implementation of IEPs by providing individualized academic, behavioral, and social support to students, aligned with the classical education model. This role includes delivering one-on-one or small group instruction, adapting materials, monitoring progress, assisting with behavior management, and supporting daily living skills as needed. Working closely with teachers and staff, the paraprofessional promotes inclusion, ensures student safety, maintains accurate records, and fosters student independence across school settings.
Essential DutiesResponsibilities:
Implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) Utilizing teaching methodologies aligned with the classical education model, such as explicit phonics Provide one-on-one or small group support to reinforce lessons and concepts Adapt and modify instructional materials as needed to meet the diverse needs of students Help manage student behavior by using positive behavior strategies and interventions Monitor and support students in maintaining appropriate behaviors in various settings, including the classroom, cafeteria, and playground Implement behavior management plans under the guidance of special education teachers or specialists Assist in setting up and organizing classroom materials and resources Support students with organizational and study skills, including note-taking, task completion, and time management Supervise students during transitions and activities, ensuring their safety and participation Collect and record data on student performance and behavior Monitoring student progress toward IEP goals Maintain accurate and confidential records of student information and interactions Provide support with daily living skills, such as feeding, toileting, and mobility, if required Assist with the use of adaptive equipment or technology Collaborate with general education teachers, special education staff, and other school personnel to support student needs Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities Support students in developing social skills and peer relationships Promote inclusion by facilitating student participation in general education classrooms and school activities Assist in maintaining a safe environment for students Be prepared to respond to emergencies, following school protocols and providing necessary support Demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance by adhering to assigned work hours, reporting on time, and following proper procedures for absences or tardiness to ensure minimal disruption to students, colleagues, and school operations. Willingness to perform other related duties as assigned
Position Requirements:
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent School experience in the special education department preferred Interacting respectfully with students, teachers, and other staff Ability to work with a diverse student population and staff Maintain regular and punctual attendance Commitment to the policies, mission, and vision of Ascent Classical Academy Charter Schools of Colorado Commitment to high moral character necessary to sustain ordered liberty and constitutional self-government Knowledge of classical education (or the willingness and desire to learn) Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to effectively articulate information and issues Ability to develop positive and professional relationships with team members Adherence to all school policies
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds Must be able to traverse the classroom and the school Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, working on a computer Must be able to supervise outdoor duties
