Job Description

Big Sandy Area Community Action Program is seeking qualified candidates for a Substitute Head Start Teacher Assistant for Model City Head Start in Pikeville. This position is part-time and will work on an as-needed basis.
Responsibilities include:
  • Helping children with personal tasks
  • Assisting teacher with records of daily attendance and data collection
  • Maintaining a safe and orderly environment for preschool children
  • Instructing children in the practices of personal cleanliness, self-care, good manners and safety procedures
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Associate of Arts with classes in Early Childhood and current credentialing as a Child Development Associate or willingness to obtain preferred
  • Knowledge of typical behaviors/expectations of three to five year old children
  • Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds and the ability to communicate verbally with children to ensure safe supervision and appropriate instruction
  • Physically capable of interacting with young children through running, chasing, bending, stooping, lifting, climbing, and standing
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills
  • Hire subject to Head Start policy on required background checks and drug screening.
