Kindergarten Teacher Assistant (.5 FTE) - Long term sub

Reports to: Principal/Early Childhood Administrator

Position Summary:

The role of the Kindergarten Teacher Assistant is to support students in the general education classroom.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Works with large and small groups and individuals to reinforce learning of materials introduced by the teacher;
  • Assists the teacher in devising and implementing strategies for reinforcing skills of student;
  • Communicates with teacher regarding student concerns and needs, both academic and behavioral;

Assists with the supervision of students during non-class time, including, but not limited to the following: recess, lunch, passing times, assemblies and school meetings, field trips, transportation, school arrival and departure, emergency drills, and other situations as deemed appropriate for the grade level and position;

Assists with classroom routine and management;

Serves as source of information and help to substitute teachers;

Participates in all job-related workshops;

Maintains an appropriate level of confidentiality;

Supervise / lead class during times when lead teacher attends meetings;

Assists in implementation and follow through of behavior plans for individual students;

Performs other job related duties as assigned by the Principal or designee.

Classification:

ESPAS Level 7 Unit Position

Schedule:

182 days (.5 FTE)

Based on the collective bargaining agreement
