Minimum requirement of a high school diploma Must meet one of the paraprofessional requirements of the
No Child Left Behind Act:
Complete at least 2 years of study in an institution of higher education; OR Associate's Degree or higher; OR Meet a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics Must be able to demonstrate the ability to perform medical and educational support tasks as directed Be in good physical health to be able to physically manage/support students at times Be able to demonstrate appropriate communication skills, both oral and written Must be prompt, courteous and have a record of good attendance in any employment Working knowledge of record keeping procedures and good organizational skills Have a valid Michigan driver's license
Essential Functions :
Provide support to student(s) as per medical, behavioral, and individual education plans to help student attain educational goals Maintain confidentiality at all times regarding student information Implement strategies as directed to help students make progress toward independence Effectively communicate and cooperate with all staff in carrying out duties Keep educational progress and medical records up to date as directed Assist students with catheters, wheelchairs, and other medical/ambulatory supports Assist students with checking blood sugar levels Perform other medical interventions as directed by the school nurse Assist students with personal hygiene and subsequent clean up Assist in the distribution of medication to students and also attend to first aid needs if needed Implement interventions designed to help students in reading, writing, mathematics, science, social studies, and other subjects as directed by the teacher
Other Duties and Responsibilities :
Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings Help to instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values Conducts other duties related to the aide's duties assigned by the building principal Proper grooming and attire have a positive impact on the school's image. This position involves direct service on a daily basis and the employee should maintain work attire and appearance that reflects an efficient, orderly and professionally operated organization.
